Local Lifestyle

Leucadia covers a quiet area of Encinitas with beautiful secluded beaches and mesmerizing ocean views. Residents enjoy access to lots of shopping and dining with diverse shops and eateries along Leucadia’s stretch of the North Coast Highway 101. Homes are located on peaceful tree-lined streets within easy reach of the beach and all of 101’s eclectic businesses. Leucadia’s laid-back surf town atmosphere makes this the kind of place you’ll never want to leave.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

North Coast Highway 101 runs through Leucadia parallel to the coastline. This vibrant stretch is lined with a fine choice of restaurants. Valentina is a rustic and romantic restaurant serving flavorful Mediterranean bistro fare prepared with fresh local ingredients. Solterra Winery and Kitchen also draws on the cuisine of the Mediterranean for its menu of seasonal tapas, small plates, charcuterie and cheese boards, steakhouse and seafood entrees, and authentic paella. These eats are paired with Solterra wines crafted and aged on-site from Californian and Mexican grapes. Inside the historic 1888 Santa Fe Railroad Station, Pannikin Coffee & Tea is a local favorite for freshly roasted single-origin coffees and global blends. Pannikin’s tea selection is also impressive, plus there are delicious baked treats to enjoy alongside your beverage. Fish 101 is a popular Californian-style seafood spot run by a husband and wife duo. Everything on the menu at Fish 101 has been caught locally and sustainably. Other Leucadia dining choices include Mediterranean and Latin American fusion cuisine at lively La Papagayo, artisanal sandwiches and craft beer at Moto Deli, organic and gluten-free baked goods at Nectarine Grove, and organic Mexican eats at Haggo’s Organic Taco.

Things to Do

Along the oceanfront, Leucadia State Beach is subdivided into the distinct beaches of Beacon’s Beach to the south and Grandview Beach to the north. Tucked beneath high bluffs, both beaches are popular sandy spots for surfing and sunbathing. Every Sunday between 10 am and 2 pm, Leucadia Farmers Market brings more than 75 vendors to the grounds of Paul Ecke Elementary School. Items on sale include fresh produce, plants, beef, seafood, baked goods, and many kinds of specialty foodstuffs. The Annual LeucadiART Walk in late August centers on a juried art exhibition with artists displaying their entries at various points along Coast Highway 101. The festivities also include free trolley rides, a children’s art pavilion, art and dance demonstrations, and live music at nine venues around Leucadia.
